I am currently designing an all new fusebox for the Ferrari 328. It will be a complete replacement for the whole fusebox and white connectors - I don't think anything else will truly fix the problems.
It will use two fibreglass double sided PCBs with much improved conductors proportional to current carried for the power side of the relay circuits. I have full modern very high quality printed circuit board making facilities available to me and this will be reflected in the PCBs. Two blank fibreglass boards will be used as insulators, one at the back and one between the two active PCBs. The new design will not be plastic boxed - this both unnecessary in the 328 and counter productive from a heat point of view. After a lot of thought I have decided the white plastic connectors must go - they do not have sufficient current rating for many of the circuits and particularly the fuel pump connector is prone to failure. Instead I will use high current screw terminals. This will mean cutting the wires into the existing connectors and stripping the wires, but I will provide an automatic wire stripper in the kit to make this easy. There will be extra fuses on the new board - some of the existing circuit exit the fusebox without ever going through a fuse and this leads to the most spectacular and unfixable failures. I will also provide new fuses, relays, spire clips and bolts and each board will be individually tested before shipping. I have had a very early protoype running in my car for a year and it works fine! The new design is fully repairable by very ordinary techniques even if someone does contrive a way to damage it. My target price is £750/$1150 with a 5 year guarentee.
The current design is for my 1987 UK (European) car. I want to make the new design as flexible and cover as many 328s as possible. There will be a quite a few variations of the 328 fusebox circuitry for different countries with different external lighting being only one of many possible variations. It may be possible to deal with some of the variations with switches rather than different boards. Please can anyone provide the actual connections along with the year and location of first sale of their 328. The type of relay (or metal link) in each relay location and the fuse values are also required for a complete description. It is important these are the actual relays and fuse values that work in your car - not what is given in the manual which is often different. The best way to provide the connections is with scans or photos of the original circuit boards, like the one of mine shown below:-
I will need scans of all 5 boards if they are to be of any use. If you have an old 328 fusebox (or just the circuit boards), even if it is broken, and you are not comfortable creating the pictures yourself, send it to me I will do the dismantling (I will still need relay and fuse descriptions). If you want it back I will reassemble it and return it. Anyone who provides a useble set of the 5 circuit boards with fuse and relay values will be offered a 25% discount on a new fusebox (close to cost price!). Please note I can't give any promises on timescales.
